Lips - Historic Review

Lip care products - in ancient times and today

Man has used lip care products since ancient times. When we began to paint the lips is impossible to say, but there is proof of the desire for lip care products in our earliest cultural history. An illustration derives from the Sumerian city of Ur where a person was found buried 5500 years ago with her vessel containing red lip cream.

The practice of using make-up existed also in several other cultures of Asia Minor and in the 18th century BC Babylon was Centre for trade in perfumes and beauty creams. Even men used make-up. As an example the Assyrian King Assurbanipal at Nineveh, a ruler during the 6th century BC, was known for his great demand for cosmetic preparations.

For a long period ancient Egypt had an influence to make-up fashion. It would be perfumed oils, kohl for eye contour, light or white pigment in the face and red for the lip care products. The Red could be litmus, red clay or red ochre.

Ochre is among the oldest color pigments used by people and is extracted from pigmented clay containing mineral oxides. In addition to the fact that the colour has been used as body paint it also occurs in tens of thousands of years old prehistoric cave paintings. This indicates that as ochre has been used for so long, it was probably much in demand when embellishing the body for enhanced beauty during much deeper layers of history than possible to give evidence of.

In the 50s BC the avante garde in Egypt with Cleopatra in the front line brought in Crimson red as the most fashionable colour for lips. Crimson red is a deep red color with elements of blue tint. It was prepared from grains derived from a specific louse.

Make-up fashion moved north via Greece and Crete and further to the Roman Empire, where again you find white pigment for the skin, thin softly curved black eyebrows, black eye contours, red lip care products and red pigments for the cheeks. The ideal lasted for centuries, with the addition of blond hair which became fashionable when the Romans had got contacts with the Teutons.

During the Middle Ages the body was condemned as a sinful abode and make-up was not appreciated, but from Minor Asia perfumes were brought home by crusaders and in Paris production of eau de toilette was launched around 1190 AD. During the Renaissance lips were painted cerise by new lip care products, but not until the 20th century it was again associated with style to use make-up for the eyes.

In Paris La Maison Dorin is said to have created the first modern lipstick in the 19th century and during the 20th century lipstick become every woman´s luxury, thanks to entrepreneurs as like Max Factor, Elisabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein. Already 1924 over 50 million American women were using lipstick. Lipstick is our most popular cosmetic lip care product and is expected to maintain its position for many years to come.

New methods for care of your lips

The vitality and radiation from your lips can nowadays be enhanced with new cosmetic remedies. There is no getting away from the fact that changes in lips follow with maturity. Declined elasticity and sunken, generally thinner lips and lost lip contour belong to natural ageing.

In different ways you can recover the lost volume, get back the strength of fibrils and regain moderate humidity. The most careful method is by using any of the lip care products that now exist. This is the concept where a lip plumper may come into use. A simple lip plumper contains only substances that irritate lips for a short period of time, and thus provides an expanding effect. But Rosy Maxlips makes a difference by really caring for lips and adds both natural and wholesome ingredients.

Lip care product that protects feeds and softens lips

A good lip plumper contains natural, beneficial nutrients, which can be absorbed through the skin, such as shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, vitamin E and vegetable glycerine. These are reliable ingredients used during a long time for care of the skin.

Collagen, peptides and hyaluronic acid strengthen and make lips fuller

Rosy Maxlips is a lip care product or a lip plumper that strengthens the natural radiance of the lips by adding peptides. In order to avoid dry lips hyaluronic acid is used for adding humidity to the water retaining depots within your lips. That is how you get fuller lips in a soft and natural way. The lips get fresh and healthy without looking like a pout mouth.

Nowadays probably no one intends to bring her favourite lip care product to her tomb for being well-equipped when proceeding, like the Sumerian woman, but we like to be attractive for as long as possible during our lifetime, though in fact the body is at full vigour during only a very short period of our lives.
